As part of the White Balance Festival, I presented six large-format works at Est_ArtSpace, Madrid, which later became part of the space’s permanent collection. Est_ArtSpace is a multidisciplinary center dedicated to experiencing, experimenting, innovating, sharing, and promoting Contemporary Art and Culture in its broadest sense.
The project stems from the need to return to the roots, to the very beginning, in order to merge them with the digital era we live in today. The series combines pinhole photography, 35mm format, digital photography, and manual interventions, creating unique works that explore the tension between artisanal craft and contemporary techniques.
Manual interventions are carried out using spray paints, various objects, slides, and multiple elements, including the rayograph technique invented by Man Ray in 1922, which allows images to be created without a camera. As Man Ray said:
“I rebelled against my camera and threw it away. I took whatever I could get my hands on: the hotel room key, a handkerchief, pencils, a brush, a piece of string. I wasn’t obliged to immerse them in chemicals. I placed them on dry paper and exposed them to light for a few seconds as if they were negatives. I was very excited and had a great deal of fun.”
The purpose of the series is to return to the most primitive era of photography, where the process is entirely handcrafted, transforming each image into a unique and unrepeatable work of art, breaking the traditional notion of photography as an infinitely reproducible medium. Each piece represents a visual experiment where creativity, technique, and innovation converge to offer a singular and deeply personal aesthetic experience.

En el marco del festival White Balance, presenté en Est_ArtSpace, Madrid, una serie de seis obras de gran formato que posteriormente pasaron a formar parte de la colección permanente del espacio. Est_ArtSpace es un centro multidisciplinar dedicado a vivir, experimentar, innovar, compartir y promover Arte Contemporáneo y Cultura en su sentido más amplio.
El proyecto nace de la necesidad de volver a las raíces, al inicio de todo, para poder fusionarlas con la era digital que habitamos actualmente. La serie combina fotografía estenopeica, formato 35mm, fotografía digital y técnicas de intervención manual, generando obras únicas que exploran la tensión entre lo artesanal y lo contemporáneo.
La intervención manual se realiza mediante sprays de pintura, objetos diversos, diapositivas y múltiples elementos, incluyendo la técnica de los rayogramas, inventada por Man Ray en 1922, que permite obtener imágenes sin cámara fotográfica. Como decía Man Ray:
“Me revelé contra mi cámara fotográfica y la tiré. Tomé cuanto me caía en la mano: la llave de la habitación del hotel, un pañuelo, lápices, una brocha, un pedazo de cuerda. No estaba obligado a bañarlos en el líquido. Los depositaba sobre papel seco y los exponía a la luz durante unos segundos como si fuesen negativos. Estaba muy excitado y me divertía muchísimo.”
El objetivo de la serie es retornar a la fotografía más primitiva, donde el proceso es completamente artesanal, transformando cada imagen en una obra de arte única e irrepetible, rompiendo con la noción tradicional de la fotografía como elemento reproducible infinitamente. Cada pieza representa un experimento visual donde la creatividad, la técnica y la innovación convergen para ofrecer una experiencia estética singular y profundamente personal.
